소개 ㅣ 우리는 때때로 설명할 수 없는 외로움 앞에서 오래 머문다. 누구에게도 쉽게 닿지 못한 마음은 조용히 흔들리고, 무심히 바라본 창밖의 풍경 속에서 비로소 작은 숨을 돌리게 된다. 리호 작가의 작업은 바로 그 고요한 순간에서 시작된다.
작품 속에 등장하는 검은 고양이는 숲길을 천천히 걷고, 바람이 머무는 자리에서 가만히 쉬며, 때로는 아무 말 없이 자연을 바라본다. 특별한 사건도, 과장된 감정도 없다. 그러나 그 담담한 풍경 안에는 우리가 잊고 지내던 감각들이 조용히 스며 있다. 흔들리는 나무와 흘러가는 구름, 순간마다 색을 바꾸는 하늘처럼 세상은 끊임없이 움직이고 변화하며 서로의 숨결 안에서 연결되어 있다는 사실이다.
리호 작가는 자연을 단순한 배경으로 바라보지 않는다. 자연은 작가에게 위로이자 감각의 언어이며, 외로움을 견디게 하는 조용한 존재이다. 화면 속 작은 고양이는 결국 우리 자신의 모습과도 닮아 있다. 때로는 혼자 걷고 있지만 결코 완전히 고립되지 않고, 빛과 그늘이 반복되는 시간 속에서도 끝내 삶의 온기를 발견한다.
작품 속 풍경은 마치 오래 바라보던 창밖처럼 마음 깊숙한 곳에 천천히 스며든다. 네모난 화면 안에 담긴 숲과 하늘, 그리고 작은 생명의 움직임은 빠르게 흘러가는 일상 속에서 잠시 멈추어 숨을 고르게 한다.
작가노트 ㅣ 작은 검정 고양이는 아주 평온하게 자연 속에 존재한다. 작은 발자국을 따라 걷거나, 함께 앉아 쉬거나, 혹은 가만 바라보는 것만으로도 좋다. 그렇게 자연 속에 가만 존재하다 보면, 그늘진 곳마저도 사소한 빛이 스민다는 것, 가만있는 듯 보이지만 아주 옅게 움직이고 있다는 것, 결국엔 결코 혼자가 아니라는 것을 안다.
어떻게 해야할지 모르겠을 외로움이 몰려오면 창밖을 가만 바라보곤 했다. 흘러가는 구름을, 흔들리는 나무를, 순식간에 변하는 노을지는 하늘을. 그럴 때면 저 깊은 산 속의 누군가가, 높은 하늘을 날고 있을 누군가가 이야기해주는 것 같았다. 모두 함께 흘러가고, 흔들리고, 변하고, 숨 쉬고 있다고. 여러번의 그늘과 빛이 지나 낮과 밤이, 한 계절이 흐르는 내내 혼자가 아니었다고.
혼자라도 결코 외롭지 않을 작은 고양이를 따라 함께 숨을 멀리 쉬어 본다. 한 때 나의 전부였던 네모난 창 밖의 풍경처럼, 네모난 그림 속 장면이 위로가 될 수 있다면 좋겠다.

<Light Seeping Through the Edge of Shadows> - LIHO
At times, we find ourselves lingering in a loneliness that cannot easily be explained. A heart unable to fully reach another quietly trembles, and only while gazing absentmindedly out the window do we finally catch a small breath of relief. The work of artist LIHO begins precisely in that still and silent moment.
Within the paintings, a black cat slowly walks along forest paths, rests where the wind settles, and at times simply gazes into nature without a word. There are no dramatic events or exaggerated emotions. Yet within these calm and understated scenes, forgotten sensations gently return to us. Swaying trees, drifting clouds, and skies that change color from moment to moment remind us that the world is constantly moving, transforming, and quietly connected through the breath of all living things.
For LIHO, nature is never merely a background. It is a source of comfort, a language of feeling, and a quiet presence that helps one endure loneliness. The small cat within the paintings ultimately resembles ourselves. Though it often walks alone, it is never entirely isolated, and within the repeating cycles of light and shadow, it continues to discover the warmth of life.
The landscapes in these works slowly seep into the heart like a familiar view once watched endlessly through a window. Forests, skies, and the subtle movement of small living beings contained within each square canvas invite us to pause, breathe, and rest for a moment amid the speed of everyday life.
