소개 ㅣ인간의 존재 가치가 자본의 유무와 소유의 크기로 규정되는 시대, 우리는 타인과의 관계에서 끊임없이 서열화되고 스스로의 내면마저 나약하게 방치하곤 한다. 속도와 효율이 지배하는 세상 속에서 정작 중요한 소통과 본질은 단절된 채, 현대인은 저마다의 불안을 안고 살아간다.
강하라, 유혜리 2인전 <빛나는 침묵의 숲>은 이러한 불완전한 현실을 살아가는 우리 모두를 향한 다정한 위로를 건넨다. 두 작가는 캔버스라는 자신만의 깊은 숲속에서, 소리 없는 침묵의 언어로 현대인의 자화상을 그리고 고유한 본질을 깨우는 여정을 제안한다. 유혜리가 소리 없는 물고기와 정원을 통해 타인과의 진정한 교감과 내면의 회복을 도모하는 '침묵의 장'을 마련한다면, 강하라는 그 고요한 숲의 끝에서 잊고 지내던 본질을 일깨워 밖으로 나누고자 하는 '빛나는 각성'을 보여준다.
화창한 봄날, 이 아름다운 숲을 거닐며 우리를 가두었던 단절의 벽을 허물고, 스스로의 내면을 따뜻하게 돌이켜보는 치유의 시간이 되기를 소망한다.
잊혀진 내면의 불빛을 깨우는 모험 - 강하라
강하라는 우화적 서사를 통해 우리가 잃어버린 본질적 가치와 내면의 상상력을 불러낸다. 작가의 작업 세계 속에서 등장하는 사슴의 '뿔'은 타인에게 보이기 위한 장식품이나 물질적 가치로 박제된 도구가 아니다. 그것은 깊은 사유와 지혜가 축적될 때 비로소 깨어나는, 인간 내면의 고유한 능력과 기억을 상징한다. 세상의 시선과 억압 속에서 스스로 능력을 숨긴 채 그저 무감각하게 살아가는 현대인들처럼, 작품 속 사슴 역시 오랜 시간 잊고 지냈던 스스로의 빛을 발견하고자 비밀스러운 숲으로 모험을 떠난다. 각자의 리듬대로 꽃을 피우고, 열매를 맺으며, 새들의 둥지가 되어주는 다채로운 뿔의 형태들은 우리가 회복해야 할 주체적인 삶의 스펙트럼이다. 강하라가 펼쳐 보인 동화적 공간은 어둠을 밝히는 은은한 등불이 되어, 경쟁과 속도 속에서 잃어버린 감각을 다시 바라보게 하고, 스스로의 내면을 환하게 비추는 시간을 보여준다.
무언(無言)의 세계에서 건져 올린 공존의 연대 - 유혜리
유혜리는 인간의 삶과 관계에 대한 깊은 인문학적 성찰을 바탕으로, 동시대의 단절된 풍경을 은유적으로 시각화한다. 작가의 화면에 등장하는 비정형의 식물들과 단순화된 물고기들은 어지러운 세상을 매일 버텨내는 현대인들의 또 다른 초상이다. 소리를 내지 않는 물고기들의 세계는 역설적으로 인간 내면의 가장 깊숙한 감정과 밀도 높은 '침묵'을 대변한다. 작가는 원근법을 지워낸 평면적 구도 위에 대상들을 나란히 배치함으로써, 화면 안의 그 어느 것도 소외되거나 하찮아지지 않도록 평등한 시선을 부여한다. 삶의 형태에 우열이 없듯, 저마다의 리듬으로 자유롭게 뻗어 나가는 식물들은 소중한 인간 하나하나를 향한 작가의 애정 어린 시선이다. 화려한 색채와 귀여운 형태 이면에 숨겨진 미묘한 긴장감은, 불안을 품고도 매일을 묵묵히 살아내는 우리 모두의 삶을 단단하게 어루만진다.

<The Forest of Luminous Silence> -Hara Kang, Hye-Ree Yoo
In an age where human worth is often measured by wealth and possession, we constantly find ourselves compared, categorized, and placed within invisible hierarchies. In a world driven by speed and efficiency, genuine communication and essential human values are easily lost, leaving many of us carrying quiet anxieties within our daily lives.
<The Forest of Luminous Silence>, exhibition by Hara Kang and Hye-Ree Yoo, offers a gentle consolation to those living through this imperfect reality. Within the deep and imaginative forests of their canvases, the two artists portray contemporary life through the silent language of imagery, inviting viewers on a journey toward inner reflection and rediscovery. While Yoo creates a “space of silence” through voiceless fish and symbolic gardens—exploring emotional connection and inner healing—Kang presents a “luminous awakening,” rekindling forgotten instincts and encouraging them to be shared outward into the world.
On a bright spring day, we hope this beautiful forest becomes a place of healing—a place where visitors may quietly dismantle the walls of disconnection surrounding them and warmly reflect upon their own inner selves.
An Adventure to Awaken the Forgotten Inner Light — Hara Kang
Through whimsical and fable-like narratives, Kang recalls the essential values and inner imagination that modern society has gradually forgotten. In her works, the deer’s antlers are not decorative objects meant for display, nor symbols of material value. Instead, they represent the unique abilities, memories, and wisdom that awaken only through deep thought and reflection.
Like contemporary individuals who conceal their true selves under social pressure and emotional numbness, the deer in Kang’s paintings embark on journeys into mysterious forests in search of their own forgotten light. Antlers blooming with flowers, bearing fruit, or becoming shelters for birds symbolize the many forms of life and individuality we long to reclaim.
The artist’s fairytale-like world becomes a quiet lantern in the darkness, encouraging viewers to rediscover the senses and emotions lost amid competition and relentless speed, while gently illuminating the inner self.
In the Wordless World, a Quiet Solidarity of Coexistence — Hye-Ree Yoo
Rooted in thoughtful reflections on human life and relationships, Hye-Ree Yoo visualizes the fragmented emotional landscape of contemporary society through metaphorical imagery. The irregular plants and simplified fish that appear throughout her paintings become portraits of modern individuals enduring the complexity and instability of everyday life.
Paradoxically, the silent world of fish evokes the deepest layers of human emotion and the dense stillness that often exists beneath words. By flattening perspective and arranging her subjects side by side without hierarchy, the artist creates a space where no presence is diminished or overlooked. Just as no life is inherently superior to another, the freely growing plants moving in their own rhythms reflect the artist’s affectionate gaze toward each individual human being.
Beneath the vibrant colors and playful forms lies a subtle tension-one that quietly embraces the emotional fragility, loneliness, and perseverance shared by people today. Yoo's paintings ultimately offer not only visual comfort, but also a contemplative space in which viewers may reflect upon relationships, coexistence, and the silent emotions that connect us all.
