소개 ㅣ 김경이의 작업은 유년의 풍경에서 출발한다. 감나무 곁 장독대에 떨어지던 감의 소리, 개천의 미꾸라지와 다슬기, 발끝에 닿을 듯 낮게 내려앉던 하늘. 그러나 그 기억은 언제나 두려움과 함께였다. 물에 대한 공포, 살쾡이와 벌, 뱀과 가시에 대한 떨림은 자연을 향한 양가적 감정을 남겼다. 사랑과 두려움이 포개진 채로, 자연은 작가의 내면에 오래 머물러 있었다.
시간이 흐른 지금, 한때 사라지기를 바랐던 존재들이 되려 사라질 위기에 놓여 있다. 다큐멘터리 <파랑새 유리 무덤에 묻히다>가 보여준 새들의 죽음처럼, 인간의 환경은 수많은 생명을 위협한다. 김경이는 이 아이러니 앞에서 묻는다. 우리는 무엇을 미워했고, 무엇을 잊었는가. 그리고 무엇을 지켜야 하는가.
작가는 천을 아교와 물감에 적시고, 말리고, 다시 먹과 색으로 덧입히는 과정을 반복한다. 스미고 번지는 물성은 자연의 숨결처럼 화면 위에 자리한다. 찍고, 바르고, 적시며 건져 올린 풍경들은 재현이라기보다 기억과 다짐의 흔적에 가깝다.
이번 전시는 자연 생명에게 보내는 한 통의 편지다. “지켜 줄게요, 함께 살아요.”라는 고백은 감사와 미안함, 그리고 사랑의 언어로 확장된다. 작품 앞에 선 우리는 묻지 않을 수 없다. 좋아함과 싫어함을 넘어, 함께 살아간다는 것은 무엇인지. 이 전시가 각자의 마음속 자연을 다시 불러내는 작은 계기가 되기를 바란다.

<Dear My Nature> - Solo Exhibition by Kyung Yi Kim
Kyung Yi Kim’s work begins with the landscapes of childhood. The sound of persimmons falling beside the earthenware jars under the persimmon tree; loaches and freshwater snails in the stream; the sky settling so low it seemed to brush the tips of her toes. Yet these memories were always accompanied by fear. A terror of water, a trembling before wildcats, bees, snakes, and thorns—such sensations left her with an ambivalent feeling toward nature. Love and fear layered upon one another, and nature remained within the artist for a long time.
Now, as time has passed, the very beings she once wished would disappear are themselves on the brink of vanishing. Like the birds’ deaths portrayed in the documentary The Blue Bird Buried in a Glass Grave, the human environment threatens countless lives. Confronting this irony, Kim asks: What did we hate? What have we forgotten? And what must we protect?
The artist repeatedly soaks fabric in glue and pigment, dries it, and overlays it again with ink and color. The permeating and spreading materiality settles upon the surface like the breath of nature. The landscapes she presses, brushes, saturates, and lifts are less representations than traces of memory and resolve.
This exhibition is a letter addressed to living nature. “I will protect you; let us live together.” The confession expands into a language of gratitude, remorse, and love. Standing before the works, we cannot help but ask: beyond liking and disliking, what does it mean to live together? May this exhibition become a small occasion for each of us to call forth the nature that dwells within our own hearts.
