소개 ㅣ스위스 출신의 작가 마르코 루피(Marco Lupi, b.1958)는 캔버스 위에 자유롭고 직관적인 조형 언어를 펼친다. 이번 전시에서는 기억의 파편, 이성 이전의 본능, 그리고 무의식 속에 남아있는 감정의 정수를 탐구한다. 전시의 타이틀인 ‘Unconscious Echoes(무의식의 메아리)’는 작가가 회화라는 매체를 통해 우리 내면 깊숙이 숨어있는 감각을 깨우는 과정을 의미한다.

마르코 루피의 작업 방식은 철저히 직관적이며 본능적이다. 그는 정형화된 이론이나 지나친 이성적 해석을 뒤로하고, 회화와 콜라주, 패브릭, 모래, 종이 등 다양한 재료를 거칠게 덧붙여 나간다. 이러한 우연성과 유희적 시도는 캔버스 위에서 격렬하지만 따뜻한 에너지를 발산한다. 화면 위를 부유하는 질감과 색채들은 작가가 살아오며 경험한 순간들, 잊혀진 얼굴들, 그리고 언어로 다 담아내지 못한 삶의 기억들이 증발했다가 다시 캔버스라는 단단한 표면 위에 방울짓듯 맺힌 결과물이다. 단단하게 굳어진 일상의 이성 아래에는 늘 요동치는 무의식의 영역이 존재한다. 마르코 루피는 작품을 통해 그 무의식이 전하는 은밀하고도 강력한 울림(Echo)을 전한다.

작가는 “작품을 무리하게 이해하려 하지 않고, 일어나는 감정을 온전히 마주할 때 비로소 작품과 진정한 대화가 시작된다”고 말한다. 무의식이 건네는 색채의 파동과 질감의 흔적을 통해 원초적인 감정에 몰입하는 시간이 되기를 바란다.

Swiss artist Marco Lupi (b. 1958) unfolds a free and intuitive visual language on canvas. In this exhibition, he explores fragments of memory, instincts preceding reason, and the essence of emotions residing in the subconscious. The title of the exhibition, Unconscious Echoes, signifies the process through which the artist awakens the senses hidden deep within us through the medium of painting.

Marco Lupi’s working process is thoroughly intuitive and instinctual. Leaving behind rigid theories and overly rational interpretations, he roughly overlays a variety of materials onto the canvas—combining paint, collage, fabrics, sand, and paper. This sense of playfulness and spontaneity radiates an energy that is both intense and warm. The textures and colors floating across the canvas are the distilled results of moments experienced throughout his life: forgotten faces and memories that could not fully be captured in words, once evaporated and now condensed like droplets onto the firm surface of the canvas. Beneath the hardened rationality of daily life lies an ever-fluctuating realm of the subconscious. Through his works, Marco Lupi conveys the subtle yet powerful echo sent from this subconscious mind.

The artist states, "A true conversation with the artwork begins not when you force yourself to understand it, but when you fully face the emotions that arise." We invite you to immerse yourself in raw emotion through the waves of color and traces of texture offered by the subconscious.
